Many members of the Qatar Museums staff (QM) were welcomed for a taste of the iconic National Museum of Qatar, which is expected to open in December 2018.The National Museum of Qatar, designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel, was awarded the LEAF (Leading European Architects Forum) le prix du « Best Façade Design and Engineering of the Year 2017 ».

The INGPHI Office, who designed and dimensioned that facade in collaboration with Ateliers Jean Nouvel, is proud to partner with this award.

The museum, located in Doha, is composed of a multitude of lenses arranged randomly to create a giant pink sands. Crossing 130 lenses of a diameter varying from 10 at 40 m creates volumes of the museum's exhibition spaces. The facade, from 120 000 m2, is composed of ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete panels UFUP of only 40 mm. With a high resistance, ductile behavior and low porosity, UHPF made it possible to reduce the thickness of the panels to 40 mm without using reinforcing panels although the size is large and the loads due to wind and temperature variations are extreme. These prefabricated elements are fixed on a side metal frame which, she, relies on the main frame via bollards.

Insulation and waterproofing are arranged under the UHPC panels and are crossed only by these posts, limiting heat loss while allowing settings and adjustments. The BFUP also contributes to drastically reducing the quantities of concrete and therefore those of sand, a significant aspect in the face of the requirements of sustainable development.. The combination of these choices has helped meet the architectural challenge of this complex geometry skin.

The museum uses its expressiveness to link the Bedouin culture and modernity.

An organic system of intersecting discs stretches around the ancient Amiri Palace, penetrating an undulating path into its interior: a journey through the past, the present and the & rsquo; future of the country. The Qatar National Museum is a bet of & rsquo; French architect Jean Nouvel for the & rsquo; structural innovation in response to the search for the & rsquo; formal identity.

With 40 000 m2 of covered area, the building is surrounded d & rsquo; a park 112 000 m2 which reinterprets the pavement of the desert of Qatar. Architect Jean Nouvel – Doha, Qatar.

At & rsquo; southern end of the Corniche, the walk that crosses Doha Bay, The museum is the first monument that can be seen in the & rsquo; arrival at the new international airport : the building becomes the & rsquo; image of & rsquo; reception in Qatar. The structure is made up of a series of discs of spherical section with different diameters and variable curvatures. The vertical discs are the support of the building and transmit the rest of the loads from the horizontal planes to the base. The discs are formed by a radial metal structure with a shell of & rsquo; sealing.

The sand-colored concrete is integrated in & rsquo; humid and dusty. Building, as desert dwellers whose & rsquo; history is told, it s & rsquo; inspired by the light, s & rsquo; shadow and fluid movement; he pushes the earth and merges with it.
In the interstices between them they appear glasses with built carpentry, so that the & rsquo; outside they seem n & rsquo; have no part. The design responds to the local climate: large overhangs create d & rsquo spaces; shadow, metal, concrete and vegetation are native, and areas of & rsquo; thermal damping discs holes create a thermal mass reducing cooling loads.
