At the forefront of this evolution is Zaha Hadid Architects, BuroHappold Engineering and was one of its oldest engineering partners in structural experimentation.

The construction is on track to ” King Abdullah ” petroleum studies and research center (KAPSARC) in the capital of Saudi Arabia Riyadh. Complex shapes , the headquarters of KAPSARC, an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to research on’ economy and technology on all energy platforms.

Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, The modular structure is a living, organic diet where expansion of the building are allowed to grow and multiply like cells – without compromising the visual integrity of the project. Composed of a three-dimensional six-sided cell network, the project is based on the concept of connectivity. The center stands above the desert landscape, emerging as a set of crystal forms that evolve in response to environmental conditions.

The design's spatial program ensures that each component is adapted to the function it serves. The shell-like facades of the exterior hide the porous interior, where the sheltered courses bring natural light into the center of the system. These buffers allow a gradual transition temperature between the exterior and interior volumes.

King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) is located in Riyadh, capital of Saudi Arabia and the largest city. Riyad, located in the center of the Arabian Peninsula on a large plateau, experienced very high rates of population growth, from 150.000 inhabitants in the years 1960 around 5 millions today. The project is located on 200 hectares between the outskirts of Riyadh King Khalid International Airport (vivid), just north of the Princess Nora Bint Adulrahman University proposed. The project is divided into two zones:
1) Competition area
2) mixed use, but the mostly residential development. The area of competition will house energy and environmental research complex.

King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) is an independent nonprofit institution of research dedicated to research on energy conservation, politics, technology and the environment in all types of energy. KAPSARC is located in Riyadh. The project was designed by renowned Zaha Hadid with a state of the art design containing irregular shapes and spaces for revealing the identity of the project.

KAPSARC is a mixed-use development including a research center, conference center and a library specializing in the exploration of sustainable energy technology. The cellular structure of the building responds to environmental conditions and functional requirements of its location in the desert.
