BAR & RESTAURANT Twaru

In the heart of Maldives, on the seaside island Velaa

the Czech architect Petr Kolar

Created the restaurant bar «Twaru»

This radical building is in close contrast with vernacular Maldives. Instead of using traditional natural materials, was used reinforced concrete monolith on the front of the building, serving as a bearing tube around which a web of gray semi-transparent curtain is stretched.

We can say that there are few skyscrapers in the Maldives, famous for water cottages built in the ocean. In particular, buildings by the sea are mostly single-family compact models. Therefore, in the construction of a «Restaurant Twaru» from 6 floors, the main problem was to integrate into the surrounding landscape, Located near the coast, palm trees grow in the vicinity, right in the middle of nature.

Structures Menbranaires

The membrane structures: have served humanity since prehistoric times. One of the main goals in life for human beings is survival. There is a constant search for protection against aggressive environmental conditions.

In the beginning, there were like structures of animal leather tents. With the development of human civilization and the need to constantly move, the human brain has been challenged to invent new ways to protect themselves. Additional elements were combined with leather, to create the first composite materials, which is extremely practical and functional.

Modern membranes have improved only about these qualities, Now at different scales: Small tent rental and shade sails up stadiums and factories, covering thousands. Technological advances in production, design and materials engineering, combined with human creativity, erased most limits for different types of projects and solutions. Membrane structures reveal unlimited, multifunctional, versatile and diverse.
