Robert Bruno The Steel House, Texas

THE STEEL HOUSE – STEEL HOUSE
Robert Bruno – Architect and sculptor
(1945 – 2008)
AN UNFINISHED SCULPTURAL WORK
Not really round, or really square, just amazing, you will understand at first glance that this is the work, unfinished, a sculptor.
An all-steel living sculpture by Robert Bruno, built but unfinished in 85 East Canyon View Drive, Ransom Canyon, Texas, USA. Built by architect Robert Bruno, is a house all steel, whose construction took 35 years.
Bruno himself was explicit about its goals.” The motivation here is really to do something that has some aesthetic value. I'm not particularly concerned about having a home. I build because I love to sculpt ” Robert Bruno.
Robert Bruno has worked for decades to build the & rsquo; one of the most striking houses in the & rsquo; America, but he died before he could finish it if he were to take root in an indefinable residential development 15 minutes from the sleepy heart of downtown Lubbock.
The house is unoccupied and has been since 2008, when Robert Bruno, the charismatic if somewhat mysterious sculptor who did the house of his life's work, died 64 after a long battle with colon cancer.
As meticulous as it was capricious, Bruno had built home with no assistance in some 30 years, design and modify as he went, frequently tearing parts that pleased him most. On a sudden apparent head, he was known for dropping months of work.
It was a process that seemed to take as many steps back as to the & rsquo; before and friends and neighbors left to wonder s & rsquo; it would never end. Indeed, after so many decades, they came to understand that the finish was something that n & rsquo; s no & rsquo; importance to him. “The real answer is that & rsquo; it was unimportant ", Dudley Thompson said, Lubbock retired architect who was longtime confidant Bruno. "I visited him frequently, so that & rsquo; it was. She rarely raised. He just liked to do. Do as he thought it should be done was his only priority “.
It is composed of 110 tons of metal.
(2200 feet) 200 M2 of space, but as says the administrator of the house Henry F. Martinez,
The "rust" color is for me one of the most beautiful there is.
Furthermore, it seems that Robert Bruno has largely resisted the temptation of "decorative" which often ruin the artist houses. Right here, besides some stained glass which is not clear how they fit into the general intention, everything is pure, at least as much as Antelope Canyon, which curves and color remind me. This is also may be where lies the success of "Steel House" : assume his affiliation with the vegetable and mineral, without awkward or applied copying, just giving see a real personal work, monumental and probably much better enrolling in its environment that neighbors.
Far from any commitment to architectural shape optimization, which is often a major concern in our approach, the work provokes a debate on the economy of materials and on the relationship between ecological and artistic value of a work. debate intrigued, especially in a time when environmentalism is a fad.
At the time of his death, it was still far from complete. The carpets were unfinished, gaping voids between its multiple levels. Bruno's plan to plaster the walls with casts taken of nude female models – d & rsquo; fully integrate the softness of the body in & rsquo; hardened steel of the house – was latent, and it was unclear s & rsquo; he abandoned the & rsquo; daring idea altogether. The hollow legs, which had to include a library and aquarium, were still developing. He had just moved into the & rsquo; one of its rooms in its incomplete last month, then it could at least have a chance to make the & rsquo; home experience to a certain extent during the last days of his life.
Today, this house is vacant and incomplete unkempt grounds dotted with cactus, scrap and its own jury-rigged construction equipment, a moldy steel hull with an uncertain future. Meanwhile, much of his other work, a remarkable and diverse catalog – Bruno designed jewelry, furniture, sculptures, large and small, and even another house – is either forgotten, neglected or lost altogether.
This project reminds me of some of the projects of the great English designer Heatherwick, with whom we had the opportunity to work on different projects.

The show focuses more on the external structure of the interior metal Confluent.
When I previewed the structure last week for my fashion photo shoot, I realized that this iron house was much more than welded metal.

There is a work d & rsquo; art carefully designed for the & rsquo; human eye to follow the floor to ceiling lines, from wall to door, welded to the window. I also made this house which must be seen through a 170 ° view. It was built for the human eye but not a 200mm lens. If I can convince Lady Gaga to come and do the Jetson themed concert here. Lighting assistant Steve Elinger.

Solange dancing on the roof cannot be a boon to her fortune.
The house remained untouched since his death, broken windows, Inside is open to the elements. But things are improving. In 2014, the Texas Tech University bought a sculpture of Bruno, with the 35.000 $ product being set aside for the maintenance of the House Steel. Slowly but surely, it earns interest as a tourist attraction – a rival of the other application Lubbock to fame as the birthplace of Buddy Holly.
